How it works
Patch Tuesday is the common name for the second Tuesday of the month. The first Tuesday of a month falls on day 1 to 7, so the second is always day 8 to 14. Microsoft's Windows documentation says quality updates, which include security updates, are typically released on the second Tuesday of each month, though they can be released at any time (Quick guide to Windows as a service, Microsoft Learn). Microsoft also publishes out-of-band updates outside that schedule; Windows release health lists examples (Windows message center, Microsoft Learn). This calendar shows the expected date only. It does not show the time of day, and it cannot tell you about an out-of-band release.
The countdown uses your device clock and the UTC calendar date, so it can differ by a day from your local date near midnight. For what an update fixes, use Microsoft's Security Update Guide; this page does not summarise vulnerabilities.
Windows Server 2016
Microsoft Lifecycle lists the Windows Server 2016 extended end date as 1/13/2027 6:59:59 AM, with dates shown in Pacific Time, which is treated here as the end of 12 January 2027 (Windows Server 2016, Microsoft Lifecycle). By calendar maths, 12 January 2027 is itself a Patch Tuesday, and the table above marks it. Plan the move off Windows Server 2016 with the migration plan builder and the ESU planner, or read the end of support guide and the WSUS migration guide.
